Social media ruined my April Fools’ day
We used to be such trusting, gullible people who hung on every word a news organisation said to us. In the annual ‘look how funny we are’ fest today we’ve seen everyone try to pull a fast one and amuse us.
Google have plonked a whale in the Thames, The Sun have given iPads to apes and the Daily Mail… well their stories always seem like April Fools’ to me.
Google - having a whale of a time
The problem is everyone had discussed them on Twitter as soon as they were published, comments at the bottom of articles exposed the lies immediately and Facebook was used in the same way too.
I love social media but for 1 day next year I shall be shunning it. I’ll buy the papers, live in blissful ignorance and be the April Fool. Now how much for a ticket to Switzerland? I want to see those spaghetti trees.
